As reported in Marcus Thompson's latest article, Nelson has decided to bench Jamal Crawford in favor of the young guards Marco Belinelli, Anthony Morrow, and C. J. Watson. His agent, Aaron Goodwin, was furious about the planned benching and had this to say:
"What is the message that Coach Nelson is sending the team? That he does not care about winning?" Goodwin said. "You would think, in this day and time when fans work hard to pay for these tickets, that the coach would field the best possible team. Jamal may not score 50 points on the Bobcats again, but he would work hard to get a win and reward the fans for their loyalty to this team in this hard time."
How about he play Crawford 5 min. then sit him the rest of the game? Would that be more to your liking, Mr. Goodwin? Better yet, Crawford should make a stronger effort to play the true PG role rather than always looking for his shot.
Nellie and company need to ignore the temptation for instant gratification and the calls for wins at all cost - mainly at the expense of development and evaluation of the young talent. This is a win-win situation tonight. If they lose, they inch closer to a better shot at a top 3 pick. If they win, they send a signal to the vets that playing unselfishly and with great effort on the defensive end is the path to success and playing time. Go Young Warriors! Go Bobcats (a little).
STAY STRONG, STAY THE COURSE, GET RICKY RUBIO!!!!
